**3 Stars**
Atticus pretty much has the world in the palm of his hand. As the catcher for the Mavericks, he puts his whole being into his job. As for everything else, well, he doesn't have to work quite that hard for some things. In his family, their blood has little baseballs running through it, that's how deeply it's a part of their life. But when an injury knocks him down a peg or two, showing him how fragile things can be, he's at a signing and realizes life really can change in an instant, as evidenced by the woman he spots that wants nothing to do with him. She's too busy paying attention to a teenage girl.
Charlotte is responsibility personified. She doesn't shirk her duties, loving those she helps. While she may wish for a family of her own, no one has gotten close enough to give her that. Besides, as a single mother, she's a package deal and not many are willing to take on a ready made family. Especially one with as many scars, emotionally and physically, as she and her daughter, Mallory, carry. But just maybe, she may have found the one that overlooks all of that.
Charlotte is, understandably, wary of Atticus, and unimpressed with certain aspects of his life, but he doesn't let that deter him. He pulls out all the stops in order to show both her and Mallory he can be trusted, that he sees them for who they are and what they've been through, and they amaze him.
Atticus and Charlotte may come from different worlds, but when they collide, the chemistry, the connection, is undeniable. Both know something is there, yet only one of them is willing to take the risk...at first. Atticus slowly begins to work his way into not only her heart, but also Mallory's, proving he's all in. However, the past can haunt you, and for Charlotte and Mallory, it may end up touching the present, which could impact the future they're beginning to envision with Atticus.
What happens when the barrier around your heart opens enough to let the right person in? Can Atticus break through Charlotte's defenses? Can Charlotte trust his feelings? What happened to Charlotte and Mallory to make them feel so broken? Can Atticus heal their hearts? What happens after he recovers from his injury? Is a HEA possible?
One-click now and follow along as two people are brought together by fate but must decide if she knows what she's doing. I liked the relationship between Charlotte and Mallory. It was an obviously strong one and you knew Charlotte would do anything for her daughter. As for Atticus, you could see the change in him as he realized while baseball may be important, other things were as well and letting those into his life only makes it an even better one.
