Raine's Haven by Shari J. Ryan
Raine Carson never had an easy life. His mom, Carly, used cocaine through out her pregnancy with him and he was raised by his grandfather until he died and Raine lost everything. He began mowing lawns which was where he met her.
Haven Leigh feels like her life is too pretend with her parents living a lie with money that doesn't belong to them. She hates her "pretend" friends and only finds solace watching the gardener outside mowing their lawn.
As Haven and Raine begun a friendship he is reluctant due to their age difference. Yet he never suspected what was coming or how it would change his life.
This is one of those books where the review is so difficult to write due to a few twists and turns that you never saw coming.
I loved Raine and he had such a hard go of life and none of it was his fault. His grandpa was amazing to him and would have been shocked to see how everything turned out and how his generosity was used so wrongly.
I liked Haven but was definitely mad at her for awhile until more stuff came out and you realized she really tried. Yet when it came down to the truth at the end she was more than willing to do what was right and let the truth be known about everything.
I think the book really makes you think about how you value life and when you put your own life ahead of someone else's without knowing what that individual really has going on in their own life. Frederick put himself above everyone else and his wife went a long with it, no caring what it cost anyone else.
This book was great and I really hated how Raine was treated when he came back as nobody knew the truth. The hard part is we have no idea if we would do the same if we were in their shoes!
